Best running experience: I don’t necessarily have one specific experience, but one of my favorite things about running is being able to explore new places while on a run. Whenever we travel, I love to research running routes that allow me to experience a new city from a different perspective. Some of my most memorable runs have been through Old San Juan in Puerto Rico, over the Williamsburg Bridge from Brooklyn to Manhattan, and on a guided run tour of Amsterdam.
Best racing experience: At the Revel Mt. Hood Half Marathon in 2018, I had been battling a few minor injuries and wasn’t anywhere near as trained as I had hoped to be going into the race. I wasn’t sure I even still wanted to run it with so little training, but I decided to use it as an easy long run and just have fun (it was the day after my birthday – a good way to celebrate, right?). The course was beautiful and I was so relaxed since I had no expectations. Around mile 10, a lady asked me what time I was aiming for and I mentioned getting close to my PR would be nice. When I told her what my PR was, she said, “Whoa! You’re about to beat that by a long shot!”. I was having such a great run, I didn’t even realize I was on pace for a huge PR. Since then, I’ve been really trying to not focus quite so much on a specific pace and just relax and have fun (this is still a work in progress).
Passions outside of running:
Electric Vehicles, specifically Teslas (and our EV podcast, Supercharged Podcast)
Traveling with my husband
Favorite post-run meal: First, a Diet Coke! Then a black bean burger with lots of cheese and onions (my favorite is the New Seasons black bean cheddar cake)! If it’s post-race, I’ll also have to have greasy fries and a Bloody Mary. Sometimes I’ll substitute the drink for a chocolate malt.
