Best race experience: The Moab Trail Half Marathon. By far the toughest race I’ve ever done. I fell right at mile 1 and had a nice, deep gash on my knee. It was clear I wasn’t going to finish in the time I wanted, so, with the pressure off, I got to take in the full experience without worrying so much about hitting the right pace. The views, brutal climbs, terrain, incredible views, and wading in waist-deep water. It was far from a PR, but it was the best reminder as to why running is so great – it pushes your limits both mentally and physically, and the trails never disappoint.
Best running experience: Growing up in Bend, OR and having access to trails along the Deschutes river is pretty hard to beat. Early morning spent on dusty trails with the sound of the river as your running playlist = heaven.
Passion(s) outside of running: Living in the great PNW I take advantage of all the outdoor activities -mountain biking, backpacking, or downhill/XC skiing.
Otherwise I’m always in the kitchen testing out new recipes and passing them off to friends/family for testing.
Favorite post-run meal: A really great sandwich (crispy bread, melty cheese, roasted turkey, tomatoes, mustard, the works) or a juicy burger with an ice-cold IPA.
