Brandt Bergeron Conquers Training Setbacks with Rest and Recovery

Brandt Bergeron is recovering from a stress reaction in his left foot. Although his diagnosis was confirmed just last week, it's been over a month since he stopped running to start the recovery process.

Brandt’s goal is to run Boston for the first time. Right now his training consists of stationary biking, aqua jogging, and elliptical for at least 45 minutes per day and longer on the weekends. Recently, he’s been able to dial in heart-rate efforts on the elliptical, which is a new skill he never imagined for 2024.

It’s been challenging for Brandt to step away from running with Boston in mind. “I have purchased my first pair of cycling shoes, and am starting to sense a triathlon attempt in the case of a future mid-life crisis,” he joked. “It’s tough to replace the feeling of tangible progress from running every day, but I’ve also gained some imagination for how I can incorporate more cross-training as part of my recovery playbook going forward.”

“I’m really grateful for everyone who has reached out and offered support; it means a lot! I’m trying to stay patient and committed to recovery, but can’t wait to start kicking off workouts and finding Friday coffee together. If anything, this setback makes me want to set higher goals when I do get back healthy.”
