Hood To Coast Round Up

From the cascades to the coast, Rose City Track Club represented at Hood to Coast this weekend! Here’s what RCTC members had to say about their experience running Oregon’s world-renowned relay.

Chloe Hallyburton

I was part of an 8-person mixed ultra team, the “Fast Holes,” with 3 men and 5 women. We weren’t planning on being competitive, but we all had fantastic runs and one guy even set a 5k and 10k PR on one of his legs. We ended up taking 13th place in the mixed division, and 104th overall! The best part was that being a small team in one van, we all got to see all the legs and cheer each other on over the whole course. Everyone really supported each other and it was a completely positive experience!

It was a beautiful weekend for HTC. My team finished strong, clocking in around 30 hours, and my whole family participated as runners and volunteers.

What a Hood to Coast this year! Fast miles, great people and an amazing result – 2nd mixed corporate/ 17 overall.

This was my second year racing Hood to Coast and the experience was unforgettable! My team, Where the Wild Things Run, brought together runners from Portland, New York, and Miami. I captained the team and held the Runner 12 spot. My three legs included 6.7 miles baking under the sun through Sellwood and along the Springwater Corridor to downtown Portland, 4.8 miles at 2am on an empty, open road (the stars lit the sky up like diamonds and the only sound was my footstep – it was amazing!) towards Mist, OR, and finally 5.7 miles along Seaside’s rolling hillside, ending with a speedy mile along the boardwalk and straight to the finish line! Racing that final leg and seeing my team waiting for me to cross the finish line together was incredible and made all the exhaustion and sore muscles completely worth it. What Hood to Coast lacked in sleep and showers, we made up for in laughs, dance parties, and some Wild miles. WTWTR conquered 199 miles in a time of 25:37:10 (average pace: 7:29), 8th place in our Category, and 69th place over all (out of 1,052 teams)! On top of that – and best of all — we made our miles count, fundraising $13,500 for the Providence Cancer Center. WIN/WIN! We’re still on a quest to continue fundraising for Providence Cancer and hit our goal of $18,000 by September 30th. Help us reach the finish line by donating here.

Catch us next (if you can) at the Oregon Wine Country Half Marathon this Sunday, September 3rd!
